I agree with you all. I never want to waste shop time. But there are times when I feel that I work all week. And then want to go down into the Man's Den and play for awhile. But sometimes the family comes first and everything else is trivial to me.

Great advice Kaleo.

Shop time is a terrible thing to waste. If you can't be fully present and thoroughly enjoy the time, why waste your precious time.

Ditto to you Kaleo, ditto to Harley, Adam and Don. Some of my best intentions of "just doing it" have resulted in some of my biggest blunders.

I agree completely. If your mind is not on the task at hand, you are asking for trouble.

Hey, Kaleo.

I know exactly what this is like. In the four years I've been at it professionally, there have been times that I absolutely have no desire to be at the shop. It's strange at first when you consider that his is our life and passion, but you are right on in saying to listen to our gut and don't go. Too many times I have ruined veneer or screwed something else up because I didn't stay away. Great post. Check this out as well. I think this will help.

I don't have kids yet, but the cartoon idea works for me too!!

Kaleo,
I have both the Fein Multi-master and the Rigid oscillating spindle/belt sander.
I've been happy with both tools. I've mostly used the Multi-master to under-cut doorway trim when installing floating floors. I love the versatility of the Rigid.
It's so lite and easy to move around and everything stows on board.

Hey Kaleo:

I was doing bills in quicken while listening to your cost of living rant and everytime I enter a check I'd get the "cha-ching" sound over your voice, Oh the metaphor.

I do what Shannon does above except I've got an old stanley for rough, then the LN shave you talk about. I like the LN, but I'm always messing with its adjustment........We heard what Kaleo does, how do you adjust yours Shannon???? That's one of my areas to get answers on at Woodworking in America. It works fine and I get excellent results, but intuitively I feel it shouldn't require the mussing I do.

Kaleo,

I have worked with both the Veritas and the LN spokeshaves. The Veritas is good for rough work because of the adjustibility. I tune my LN for a finish cut and it works great. With that light of a cut i find I am able to work with and against the grain in tough situations. Both are top notch tools!
