I too have a glen drake adjustable marking gauge….. buttery operation! He’d be on my list for you to interview.

Hey K,
I guess you know that there is a Woodcraft store in Springfield. They do have a good sale on the Besseys. Maybe you could take back the clamps you bought and go save bucks at Woodcraft.

The big boss man (Chris Schwarz) is always a good interview, but I’ve heard a few and you’ll likely want to branch out. Of all the people at this conference I would love to talk with Robin Lee, head of Lee Valley. The family history (his dad is Leonard Lee, company founder), the integrity of Lee Valley Tools, the innovation of Veritas tools, his openness and accessibilty, and the family tool collection make him a much admired figure (to me, at least). Kevin Drake is also a very interesting guy, I’ve watched his promotional video (highly recommended) and he’s helped me via email a couple of times. He’s personable, obviously very knowledgeable, and unconventional. Patrick Leach, with his Stanley plane website (http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan0a.html) would also be on my list if he’ll be there.

nice job kaleo! i know what you mean about the whole setting up shop thing. i have a nice table saw and i have a d4r along with a miter saw and all the hand power tools but like you said i still need so much more. i need a jointer, planer, bigger miter saw, new table saw fence, router table, drum sander and the list goes on and on and on. i think maybe you should interview Thomas Lie-Nielson. have a nice day!

Kaleo,
I recently purchased over $250 in clamps-a bunch of Irwin’s and some Jet clamps.
I had a really big glue-up that took every clamp I had. The Jet’s are awesome, mostly because the handles are rubber and have a big diameter (really easy to crank down hard). The Bessey’s I have are wood handled and are not as “ergonomical”. The one parallel Jorgensen clamp I had broke! Thank god it was a gift, or I’d have been torqued. It was cheap pot metal. Just my experience and two cents.
